Vergilius Powergaming Evaluation:
You need a patrol bomber if you want to make the transition into a pure nation. Every pure nation has at least one good patrol bomber. The Il-4 is the Sunderland-light. We get mines and bombs, but we change Loiter for Excellent Endurance and shift to a weaker airframe (6 VA). The Il-4 also lacks the Sunderland’s 3 dice ASW attack but picks up a 2 dice torpedo attack instead. A weak airframe with torpedoes is not a good recipe for success, and we only get a mere point reduction over the Sunderland. Still this is a solid unit that should see important play in games that feature the Soviets as a pure nation. Overall Grade: B
