Inspiring Lieutenant

Unit Card:

Set - Rarity - Number

Base Set - Uncommon - 11/48
39-45 - Uncommon - 3/60

Historical Background:

Lieutenant is the lowest grade of commissioned officer in most armies, including the British Army. Lieutenants typically lead a platoon of about 28 men. In AAM terms that would be about one Inspiring Lieutenant, two SMLE riflemen and one Vickers MG Team.

The Inspiring Lieutenant is one of the most powerful and interesting commanders in the game, but you also have to put a lot of points in a vulnerable 10 point commander. The version of Tally Ho! on the physical card does not specify "non-artillery," making it even more powerful before the revision.

The speed bonus from Tally Ho! allows you to get your infantry to the objective before your opponent assuming no paratroopers or Transport units are on the board. Obviously, this is very useful: particularly so with tough infantry.

The biggest question I typically have when playing the Inspiring Lieutenant is whether it's worth playing him or whether I would be better off with Defiant Paratroopers. The paratroopers are 5/5 defense units with good dice against soldiers and Close Assault 8.
