Historical Background:

Based on the Panzer 38(t) chassis, the Jagdpanzer 38(t) was a light tank destroyer fitted with a modified 75 mm Pak 39 L/48. It was the successor to the Marder III. It was cheap to build, had bettor armor than the Marder III, was mechanically reliable and its low profile made it easy to conceal. It's shortcomings included a cramped interior, limited gun traverse, poor visibility for the commander and a gun designed to be loaded on the right that was placed on the right side of the vehicle. It entered service in 1944 and more than 2500 were made.

Reviews:

Panzer Commander
The 38(t) has an almost cult-like following among AAM enthusiasts, probably owing to its reasonably high AV numbers and modest cost, certainly compared with the ORIGINAL cost of the Jagdpanther, for example (20 vs. 57). It's also fast (4 speed) and has an SA (hard to spot) that gives it more survivability (at least in cover) than a Panzer IV at less cost. Since the release of the Stug III G in the North Africa set, however, the 38(t) arguably has been overtaken as the preferred light tank destroyer. The Stug III G has the same armor, plus sideskirts, plus better AI for one point LESS than the 38(t) Hetzer.

I agree mostly with Panzer Commander, but the Jagdpanzer 38(t) in vehicle vs vehicle has better odds of success compared to the Stug III G because of it's faster speed and "hard to spot". I think that both are good units. I use both, but I still prefer the Hetzer because it is easier to flank enemy units with it.
