History

The Medium Tank M3 was an American tank used during World War II. In Britain the tank was called by two names based on the turret configuration. Tanks employing US pattern turrets were called the "General Lee", named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Variants using British pattern turrets were known as "General Grant", named after U.S. General Ulysses S. Grant.

Design commenced in July 1940, and the first M3s were operational in late 1941. The U.S. Army needed a good tank and coupled with the United Kingdom's demand for 3,650 medium tanks immediately,[2] the Lee began production by late 1940. The design was a compromise to produce a tank as soon as possible. The M3 was well armed and armoured for the period, but due to design flaws (high silhouette, archaic sponson mounting of the main gun, riveted construction, below-average off-road performance) it was not satisfactory and was withdrawn from front line duty as soon as the M4 Sherman became available in large numbers.

A unit that I like a lot in real life, but completely unrealistic in this game. One of the "fun" unit to play, You don't pick that unit for power gaming, but as a nice change for the good all rounder Sherman. I'm not going to llie, it is tricky to effictively use the Strike and fade 1 ability and the Additional Hull-Mounted cannon limits your facing. Still it always suprises the other player when you attack him from a forest hex and then, just hide behind it. The main issue that everyone has with this unit is it's cost: You can get 3 M4A1 Shermans for the price of 2 of those units. Personally, I think that this unit is poorly represented in the game, compared to what it was in real life: a "quick fix" before something else could be developped. I think that its SA should be more like the Fixed gun found on the carro-armato-m11-39, as right now it is almost considered by the game as a "stronger" unit then the sherman as it can attack twice in a turn.
