History:
This ship helped helped in the battle off Samar when Admiral Takeo Kurita attacked task force "Taffy 3" in an attempt to sink troop carriers during the invasion of Leyte Island. The battle was 2 hours long from 7:30 to 9:30 in the morning of October 25th 1944. She was sunk after viciously defending the carrier escorts like the St Lo.

Sammy B. the Destroyer Escort is the only USN destroyer with the Sub Hunter SA, and with a 6 ASW rating, is tied for first in game with Saumarez. The USN has other ASW options in their torpedo bombers and Catalina as well.

Samuel B. Roberts is no longer the only American unit with Sub Hunter (see: Taylor, Allen M. Sumner), and there's better options out there, but a low cost and that vicious 6 ASW means that the Sammy B. isn't useless yet. In a larger game, you can bring one in as cheap protection for your carriers from Infiltrator subs or any others that break through your screen. Don't expect to use Valiant Stand; unlike its real-life counterpart this unit will not be working any miracles against overwhelming odds.
