History:

The USS Yorktown (CV-5) was the lead ship of its class. After the design behind the USS Ranger (CV-4) did not prove to be effective, a new design was laid down, this would be the basis behind the Yorktown class carriers.

The Yorktowns would prove to have impressive resilency, also aided by the high standard of damage control the US Navy adherred to.

When the Japanese struck at Pearl Harbor, The Yorktown was out to sea on excercises. Along with the other American carriers and the surviving remnants of the Pacific fleet, the carriers took the fight back to Japan, attacking Marcus and various other Japanese island bases.

In 1942, along with USS Lexington (CV-2), Yorktown faced the Japanese carrier force comprised of the carriers Shokaku, Zuikaku and Shoho in the Battle of the Coral Sea. Despite having severely damaged the larger Japanese carriers and sinking the smaller one, enemy fliers found Yorktown and Lexington. Yorktown was savagely damaged, and Lexington was reduced to a sinking condtion by the enemy onslought. After limping back to Pearl Harbor, Yorktown was repaired in a mere three days, coming just in time to assist in the Battle of Midway, in which the three Yorktown class carriers sunk 4 of Japan's fleet carriers. Aircraft from Hiryu however found Yorktown and damaged it severely. The carrier almost made it out, but the Japanese submarine I-168 finished her off.

Yorktown should be purchased when you are looking for some serious air support. Expert Dogfighter 2 adds huge firepower to any US fighter. She is cheaper than her sister Enterprise, lacking in flag and Survivor, but Yorktown is a solid carrier worth bringing to battle if you wish to give your fleet total air superiority.

The Yorktown a very solid carrier Expert Dog fighter 2 is a super big boost to any fighter aboard its deck. Cheaper than Enterprise, but I'm a bigger fan of Enterprise to due with the survivor and flagship bonus. Pair it with a protective fighter like the wildcat and it will be hard to beat.
